Talauna is originally from Tacoma, Washington, and has lived in Olympia since 2011. She is the proud mother of 21 year old twins, who have both left the nest and are now away for college at WSU and Weber State. She is a veteran organizer in the South Sound who is passionate and committed to advocating for racial justice, social justice, police accountability, and housing justice.

Talauna has a BA in Organizational Management. She is a Certified Peer Counselor and Certified DV Advocate. She became committed to her work as an organizer and activist after the tragic murder of her aunt and mentor Yvonne McDonald in 2018. Talauna is a core organizer for Olympia Showing Up for Racial Justice, Founder and lead organizer for the Joy and Justice Book and Gift Giveaway, and D.R.E.A.M. Olympia (Dismantling Racism, through Education and Advocacy and Mentorship). In 2023 Talauna completed her appointed term on the Olympia School Board, and she is the first and only African American to serve on that board.

“I am currently the Membership Coordinator and Organizer for the Tenants Union of WA State. Everyone deserves safe and affordable housing and Tenant Rights need to be protected. I value prioritizing the voices of our most vulnerable community members and those impacted by systemic oppression, Climate Justice + Housing Justice + Disability= Racial Justice! I am excited to rejoin the TCAT Board,” Talauna said.
