2025 Climate Champion Awards

Each year, Thurston Climate Action Team (TCAT) will honor Climate Champions. Each award honors a person or organization who demonstrates leadership and a deep commitment to addressing climate change. Climate Champions actively work to create a sustainable future through climate action via actions in climate mitigation and/or resilience.

2025 was the first year of the awards. The 2025 Awardees are:

Oly Community Solar

Olympia Community Solar 

2025 Business Climate Champion

Olympia Community Solar is a nonprofit clean energy developer guided by a mission to steward an equitable and accessible clean energy transition.

Over the past seven years their team (Mason Rolf, Lana Rae Jarvis, Ben Silesky, and Keira Jensen) have worked with Washington communities to actualize their clean energy prospects. Their work focuses on projects that promote access, economic justice, and emissions reductions in underserved communities.

OCS partners with tribes, public agencies, nonprofits, and commercial entities to support their clean energy installations with development, grant writing, and grant management services. Their Solarize program, in its sixth year, is a group purchasing model used to reduce costs and simplify the solar installation process for homeowners.

OCS has worked on projects across Washington. In Thurston County they have developed projects with Good Shepherd Church, The Thunderdome at The Evergreen Community College, Yelm Community Center, Quixote Village, Merritt Manor, and Homes First, among others.

Tom Crawford

2025 Volunteer Climate Champion

Tom Crawford is instrumental in keeping TCAT afloat during tough financial times. He works closely with TCAT staff, board, and volunteers on developing and carrying out TCAT programs.

Tom Crawford is a living, breathing example of climate action. He was a founding member of the Thurston Climate Action Team (TCAT) in 2009. Since then, he has served on the board and as its Board President multiple times. Tom was instrumental in keeping TCAT afloat during tough financial times. He continues to work closely with TCAT staff, board, and volunteers on developing and carrying out TCAT programs.

Currently Tom is heading up the TCAT’s HEAT (Home Energy Affordability for Thurston) campaign which advocates for local policies and incentives that will bring down high energy bills for low-income renters, while protecting their health and safety. He is active in TCAT’s involvement to get the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan passed, and is a current member of the Thurston Climate Mitigation Collaborative’s Community Advisory Workgroup. Tom attends countless community meetings, talks with local politicians, testifies, and is a strong advocate for meeting the county’s climate goals. Tom also believes strongly in, and works hard for, a future that is equitable, affordable, and healthy for all.

Beth Doglio

2025 Government Climate Champion

Beth Doglio is state representative for the 25th District. She is a relentless advocate for the environment and climate action.

Beth Doglio is currently a state representative for the 22nd Legislative District, and also served in that position from 2017 to 2021. A longtime environmental activist, Doglio was the founding director of Washington Conservation Voters, from 1991 to 1995. She later worked for Audubon Washington. In 2007 Beth joined Climate Solutions, serving as a senior advisor and campaign director working on campaigns to reduce the use of fossil fuels. As a current legislator, Beth chairs the Environment and Energy Committee. She favors moving toward a 100% fuel-free electric grid by 2045 and tax incentives for electric vehicle purchases. Other environmental issues of interest to her are storm water and waste reduction.
