Climate Action Milestone in Thurston County!
TCAT has been working with the cities of Lacey, Tumwater, Olympia and the Thurston County Board of Commissioners on the development of the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan (TCMP). During this time TCAT gathered almost 500 signatures in support of the TCMP and organized dozens of community members to send letters and provide public comment during city council and board of county commissioners’ meetings in support of a strong climate mitigation plan. In addition, TCAT launched The Chrysalis Project as a way to bring people together virtually through art and advocacy for strong climate action.
All four jurisdictions formally accepted the plan, approved an inter-local agreement to begin the implementation process, and three of them (Olympia, Tumwater and Thurston County) approved a climate emergency declaration. This milestone was only possible with the amazing work of our volunteers, staff and partner organizations!
Moving forward, TCAT will be working to ensure that local governments and our communities take the steps needed to bring down our carbon pollution through the implementation of the TCMP. You can be part of the action by joining one of our Climate Action Groups! Action group meetings are listed on our events calendar.
