Warheads to Windmills Book Discussion

August 5, 2021 - 6:30 pm

Thursday  August 5th  (6:30-8:00 p.m.) will focus on  (3) Solutions – The Nuclear Ban Treaty, (4) It’s Not Just About the Money, and (5) Conclusions.  (pp. 33-62). This discussion will be led by James Manista of OCANW.

Join TCAT in July and August for two stimulating discussions of a recent short book, titled Warheads to Windmills: How to Pay for a Green New Deal, by Timmon Wallis. Along with Thurston Climate Action Team, co-sponsors of these discussions include the Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (OCANW), the Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR), and Veterans for Peace Chapter 109.

Warheads to Windmills  ( http://www.nuclearban.us/w2w/ ) is a detailed analysis of what it will take to adequately address the climate crisis and where the needed funds, scientific and engineering expertise could come from: the nuclear weapons program. “It’s not an exaggeration to say that these weapons threaten our very existence as a species,” said Timmon Wallis, principal author of the report.  “And so does the climate crisis.  But if we eliminate nuclear weapons, we can convert an industry of death to an industry of life.  We can shift massive amounts of money and scientific talent to green technologies we need to survive – and we can create millions of jobs.  And if we stop pointing missiles at each other, we can start to build the international cooperation we’ll need to work

together to solve the climate crisis.”  Author Tim Wallis has written and campaigned extensively about peace and environmental issues for decades and has recently worked with International Campaign to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons as director of nuclearban.us, a partner of ICAN.

Participants are encouraged to participate in both evening discussions. If you’d like to participate, please contact Glen Anderson (of Olympia FOR) at  for the zoom link.
