Citizens' Climate Lobby Meeting

January 12, 2019 - 9:30 AM
Olympia Community Center
222 Columbia St NW, Olympia

National video-conference speaker, journalist Amanda Ripley, offers tools to disrupt intractable conflict that impedes our progress.

Amanda Ripley is a reporter who practices “solutions journalism, which digs below oversimplified narratives to get to the deeper truths about people and society. In the process, Amanda has come across a way to address conflict that results in a more satisfying outcome: Complicate the narrative. As we engage in the difficult conversations needed to arrive at solutions to preserve a livable world, Amanda offers the tools to disrupt the intractable conflict that impedes our progress. Amanda has written for The Atlantic, Time magazine, Slate and the Wall Street Journal and is the author of The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization empowering people to experience breakthroughs exercising their personal and political power. The Olympia Chapter meets monthly at the Olympia Center. At each monthly meeting, we listen to a national teleconference and discuss the activities of our Action Teams. We are laser focused on a specific piece of legislation and a proven strategy to gain its passage. We are working for the passage of Carbon Fee and Dividend, the climate change solution economists and climate scientists alike say is the “best first-step” to preventing the worst impacts of a warming world.

The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act was introduced by a bipartisan group of representatives on Nov. 27. This legislation incorporates the elements of CCL’s  Carbon Fee and Dividend proposal — rising fee on carbon, revenue returned to households, border carbon adjustments.
