ONLINE Carbon Free Thurston Campaign meeting via Zoom

March 18, 2020 - 3 PM

This meeting will be held via Zoom because of the current coronavirus health emergency. The Carbon Free Thurston campaign advocates for a strong Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan being developed by the County and the cities of Olympia, Lacey, and Olympia.

Both places we have tried to schedule this meeting for (Panorama and the Olympia Center) have closed their doors to all meetings.  But this won’t stop our planning and organizing for a big impact this summer!  We’re going online with a virtual meeting, using Zoom.  Below is the link to that meeting.

Volunteers with TCAT’s Carbon Free Thurston campaign will continue organizing and planning for a major climate action push later this year.  We will mobilize local residents to persuade our local city and county elected officials to adopt and implement a game changing climate action plan.

With the help of the Thurston Regional Planning Council, the cities of Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater and Thurston County are developing a climate mitigation plan to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions by 45% from 2015 levels in 2030, and 85% in 2050.  The plan will be ready for adoption in July of this year, and local elected officials need to hear from community members how important it is to take strong climate action.

At this month’s Carbon Free Thurston meeting we’ll be talking about

  •  outreach to community groups (such as communities of faith and unions),
  • speaking up at city council and county commissioner meetings,
  • working with cities to take early actions,
  • distributing a petition,
  • outreach at upcoming community events and festivals, and
  • making sure funds are available to implement the plan.

We’ll need lots of people working on this starting right away. So join us on March 18!
