Coaching session on advocating for a strong Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan at County Commissioner and City Council meetings.
The Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan is currently being developed by the County and the cities of Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater, and is expected to be completed this June. All four jurisdictions adopted community-wide targets of a 45% reduction below 2015 greenhouse gas emission levels by 2030 and 85% below by 2050. It will require significant community education and grass-roots support to ensure a strong plan that will meet these goals.
We need the Cities and County to start hearing NOW, not just in June, that we want a strong plan passed and implemented.
We want folks to speak during the public comment period each month at meetings of city councils and county commissioners, to:
- Provide them information about the climate crisis and solutions.
- Encourage them to be ready to pass the plan.
- Talk about the importance of taking action on climate.
At this coaching session, we will give you talking points and help you prepare for providing public comments. There is a two-three minute limit (depending on jurisdiction) on speaking during the public comment period.
To find the Quinault apartment building:
The main entrance to Panorama is on Sleater Kinney just south of 14th Ave SE which has a flashing red light and four way stop signs. By the big sign saying Panorama, turn left into Panorama. Bear right at the small traffic circle.
Pass the first big building on your right, Panorama Hall, where the restaurant is. The address is 1751 Circle Lane. Chihuly red/yellow art outside.
The second big building on your right is the Quinault apartment building: the address is 1835 Circle Lane.
This gives you the location of the Quinault, however there is no parking at the Quinault.
You need to park before you reach the Quinault. There may be a few unreserved spaces in the parking lot between Panorama Hall and Quinault which you can use.
Your best bet is to park in the much larger parking lot before Panorama Hall, which you can turn into immediately upon turning right at the small traffic circle. Park in that lot and walk to the Quinault from there.
To find the Seattle Room:
Enter the main entrance to Quinault, which faces Circle Lane. A short way inside, there is an elevator on your left, and a little farther on, a stairway on your right. By either method, go down one level.
In the corridor you enter, look for the Coffee Room; go down the hallway past the Coffee Room. The Seattle Room is halfway down that hall, and opposite the Quinault Auditorium. The sign saying Seattle Room is not visible until you get to it.
